Friday Night Writing Frenzy

Welcome all to the second WR writing challenge! The challenge begins at 8:30 EST but I thought I'd post now just to explain what you need to do. If you are just stumbling upon this blog it will help to explain these as well.

Writing challenges have a purpose--to suck words and story out of any writer. Basically, the point of this is not to produce a perfect story, it's to start one. If you're in writer's block or something, or just can't seem to write--this challenge is for you. Perhaps the competition and such will spur you on. It certainly does so for me.

The way these work is that everyone signs on and posts what they are working on and the starting word count. Reading about people's projects is always fun :D

Post your goal. You can set your own personal goal or simply say "Better than anyone else", which will never happen by the way. ::laughs::

At then end of the challenge, that will start promptly at 8:30 and end at 9:30, all will post their final word count and any challenges they faced throughout the challenge.

I am pumped. Are you with me?

EDIT: Please post a good bit before the challenge (AKA now)

If I'm able, I'm hoping to work on a scene from my novel in progress, Escape into Darkness. The current word count is only 667, and I have NO idea what I'm expecting it to be at the end, lol.

I'm here! Yippee, let's get STARTED!

Ok, not till 8:30, then... :)

Working on a short story for a contest. Gonna be copying it from paper to computer and hopefully, where the paper ends, continue on from there.

So word count: 0

Oh hey! Wow you just made my day...I was about to re schedule.

Hmmm well since I wasn't preparing, assuming no one was coming lol, I'll probably start a few minutes late. But that's okay...let's set these keyboards on fire shall we?

Let's!

You know what...I don't think I'll be able to do this challenge right now, but I will try to a little later tonight.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Ah, sorry to hear that. I konw the feeling though. Take care!

We'll have another one next week if you care to try again ;) lol

I'm going to start sometime about now. I'm working on a NaNoWriMo novel, starting at 26,328. My goal is to write 5k tonight (not just in one hour) so I will be happy if I can break through my block and get at least 1000 before this challenge ends.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Awesome Melissa! I have stuff to do tonight or I'd continue writing with you. But if you can get 1,000 words in half an hour...more power to you ;)

Good luck with Nano too BTW! YOu need what...20 K before the end? Not bad. Best of luck!

Well, I came to a new scene and I'm deciding to cut it quits. I am so sorry Cadi...we're all quitting on you ::laughs::

I got 735 in about half an hour...which is awesome for me :D

How'd you do?

You're all such wimps. :P jk!

Ok, let me see... it's been just under and hour, and I got.. 981.

Thanks for hosting it, Nathan! I really needed an "excuse" to work on my project.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

That's awesome Cadi! Great job!

Any time. It's my duty to provide excuses :D

Melissa Rose said...

I got to 27,455 so 1,127 words in half an hour.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Well you're a lot faster than me lol Great job!

Melissa Rose said...

Thanks! Short 10-20 minute sprints are the key for me. I don't do as well if I try to write continuously for longer periods of time.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

I usually end up quitting like I did earlier lol

Way to go, Melissa! That's amazing!

Okay, I started at 9:30 and just got done with the hour. (I'm probably going to keep going, though.) I almost doubled the word count at 1,253 (from 667) So, only about 600 words in one whole hour....eh, whatever. At least it helped me get past the writer's block! Thanks for doing this Nathan; I hope to participate in another on soon!

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Sure thing! These are always really fun and help with Writer's Block I think lol. It seems I always burn out however if I switch scenes during the challenges lol. Next time I'll do better :D

Great job!

I wasn't able to post last night (didn't have internet connection) but I did participate.

I started at 8:30 and ended at about 9:20.
My word count started around 100 and ended at 611. Working on the very begining of my book with Pelacual being the working title. Not sure if I'm keeping or dumping what I wrote, but 'twas a interesting experience. This was my very first writing challenge.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Awesome Barie! You did GREAT! Don't dump anything...instead try playing with it ;) lol

Barie-ah Hue-en-la said...

You sound a little over enthusiastic. lol.
I'm just trying to decide whether it be better to jump right into the action, or make the readers care for what's about to be ruined before I ruin it. Basicly I wrote a few scenes that I'm keeping for a while, but may someday have to get cut.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

I wonder if you could not jump right into action and still make the readers know and love that which is being destroyed? Action keeps your readers interested...though depending on how long you write a heahrtfelt scene ::laughs::

Barie-ah Hue-en-la said...

The non-action part would only be about two pages on my word processor. Not very long.

Nathan R. Petrie said...

Yeah I think that's good. :D So long as there's action following ;)

Barie-ah Hue-en-la said...

Yes there is, and plenty of it. :)
