GSA Poem

-Nathan R. Petrie-

Truth is a song and a story
sung by a small blackbird
who crescendos with age alone;
it is uninterested
in opinions or whether you listen—
it just sings,
humming with reserved energy,
like the waters of Mississippi
were dammed at its mouth.
Be silent and listen
to the songs of the streams,
for your hearing is wanted
and solitude beckons—
like a calling blackbird.

(PS Week of poetry is almost completed! This was written during a workshop with Pulitzer Prize nominee Maurice Manning. Sweet right??)

Oh, one more thing: do you think scriptwriting could count as prose and fiction?

This poem actually got heavily edited and then denied for my chapbook. So if that's any insight into the program, there you go :)

Welcome back DOL!! A blog now? Shuweet!

Sweet word count!

Play/screen writing coutns as prose, yes. So you're free to count it!

I think I've written more words in blog posts than I have in prose...but my word count is about 10k or so. *shrug* I still haven't started my novel yet. The outline is giving me loads of trouble, so I wrote a short story or two. <_<

Oh, by the way, you've been award. :)

*The non-fiction blog posts words were not counted, by the way. Just some clarification there. The only words I counted were in poems and stories.
